Well Summer is here in Death Valley with a vengeance Its been so nice we had about a month of mid 90s and then Wham 100+ been right at 106-110 last week or so ITS HOT! Any way I broke down and went hunting for a Swamp cooler on Craigslist and Bagged me a swamp cooler for the shop I don't know if its big enough for the shop or not? Oh well if its too Big I figure I can always rent the shop out as a wind tunnel afterwords right? I am sooo Embarrassed at the way I got that thing up there But it was sooo frigging hot! All I keep telling myself the sooner its up there the sooner I can start working on it and get it running to cool the shop down so I can work in there

Its a cooler deal more like a really big Humidifier, As water flows over mats the fan draws air through them and forces it into the room as the Moist air hits dry hot air it evaporates cooling the room works really good in Hot Dry climates like I live in (Death Valley) doesn't do squat in climates with Hi Humidity. Its an Industrial unit 30,000+ cfm Liquid evaporates by shedding molecules into the air, changing from a liquid state to a gas. As they become suspended in the air, the molecules draw some of the heat from the hotter air, cooling it down as the water and air find equilibrium. The process also cools the remaining liquid, as hotter, faster-moving molecules are the most likely to escape into the air.

The guy I got it from says it uses probably 200 gal a day on a good hot day. I dont think that's true though. I'm on a well any way so I dont care about how much water it uses.

I never knew a squirrel cage that big existed! Yes, I think it might just do as a wind tunnel! Hope you continue showing us your progress

Cool! I think the dog likes it too! New shady spot for him to lay down under.

We have a swamp cooler at the store. All it really does, if you run it as they instruct you, is increase humidity. Not good in a hot building, which ours is.
However, if you start saving water and pop bottles and filling them with water, you can throw them in the freezer. Once frozen you can toss them in the bottom of your swamp cooler while it's running. That helps quite a bit, but you will need to change them almost hourly... the ice melts quickly! We have about 25 frozen 20oz bottles in the freezer, and will go through all of them on a hot summer day with a much-smaller unit. The store will still hit the upper 90s in the retail area regardless.

That's a monster Dennis. I don't care how you get it up on that stand...I'd be willing to try anything in that heat.
