Hi buddies, I was working yesterday on a buddy's 73 Charger, changing springs and finally NOTICED the diff on bushing by myself.
This charger could have an earlier production spring BUT NOT because the spring like because the bushing and will post why I say this.
Has been told the 73/74 springs carries bigger bushing because isolation stuff than 71/72. I HAVE DETAILED SEVERAL WEB PICS including last426 ( kim ) 71 R/T what sent me a CDROM of his car and never really noticed they were really bigger than my 74.
Now that we dissasembled this 73 when we tried to fit the new springs WE WEREN'T ABLE TO DO IT... WHY ? we got same springs we used on my 74 from same dealer.
SIMPLY, BECAUSE THE BIGGER BUSHING STUFF is not related with outer diameter being bigger, is related because inner diameter ( where bolt goes throught ) is SMALLER, making thicker rubber isolation.
So in relation with this, everything will be fine as far you use the right frame bracket and bolt, because of course bigger bushing with smaller inner diameter use smaller size bolt and of course smaller hole to same bolt on frame bracket!
So we had a big diameter bolt, and bracket hole with smaller inner diameter bushing.
We discovered this was true also because seller sold two springs one of each kind LOL... we couldn't get it back because they were the last ones on stock, so we run to change just the bushing we need to match with this 73 setup with "smaller" ( bigger size bolt ) bushing.
Small bolt and big bolt brackets fit the same on frame any 71/74 frame so is not a problem.
Of course if you have a small bolt setup ( theorically 73/74 ) and get a 71/72 spring, is a piece of cake, just need to get the right bolt to fit on larger inner diameter bushing and enlarge the bracket holes ( if you don't want to replace bushings ).
Of course backwards is not the same easy, since will need to fill the bracket hole to make it smaller, or weld a pair of washers and get smaller size bolt. I would preffer replace bushing in that case
will take pics of bushings next weekend.
