I'm guessing this is what you have, right? store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=DCC%2D5249807&N=700+4294925239+4294839057+4294756384+400172+115&autoview=skuIt says that you've got a 13 3/4" element.... I did a search for drop bases, and I've seen them listed for the 10", 13", 14", and the 16" I'm thinking maybe the 13" might work, but with that 3/4" thrown in there, I don't know..... I was looking at that particular air filter at one time, but when I saw that odd ball size air filter listing, I stayed away from it..... Maybe being a 13 3/4" filter, perhaps it will fit on a 14" drop base, I remember on my old one that I had until I sold the car that it was on, there was a little room between the filter element and where the metal part of the base started turning upward to go to the carb neck..... I wonder what everyone else will have to say about this one......

PJMOPAR: I have nothing to contribute re: the air cleaner diameter vs filter, etc....
But I do know an excellent and proven way to figure your clearance available from the top of the intake manifold WITHOUT TEST-FITTING THE HOOD EVERYTIME.
The process is easy, but the explanation is rather lengthy --even for me--so when you get to the point where you need to know your available clearance...
PM me and I'll PM the "method" back to you...
It's easy, it's simple, it works, and...
THOSE HOODS ARE HEAVY!! #YesNod# #YesNod# #YesNod#

Oh wait that's right, I was trying to figure out hood clearance w/o a motor in place, what a pain of trying to explain things are in deed..... Never did get all that figured out, started on some body work, that is rust work..... Oh the joys. PJMopar, do you by any chance know anyone who has a 14" air filter assembly, preferably a drop base that lives right around you? If so, then may I suggest that you try and borrow it long enough to see if your air filter lid and element fit on the carb and all together? If it does, then see if there's enough clearance.... Though, if you don't, then.... Hmmm..... A lot of things come to mind, but.... Maybe you could try JER's measuring idea....

Figuring it without a motor is a lot more difficult, but can be done... figuring it with the intake manifold (and motor of course) already installed is a snap... And FYI, buddy boy....it's a method NOT an "idea"....!! #DancingBanana# #DancingBanana#

W/O the motor might as wellbe an idea, lol. That's a lot of work and, "should work" and such, that was alot of stuff.... Since the hood is back on there, and I've not crawed on that ground again... Well... I think that build I was trying to figure out for, changed.... I think at the time I was planning on running the 361 with that TM6 and carb spacer plus some other stuff.... Now I'm planning on running the Edy Perf RPM heads (ported some), Perf RPM intake, a 1" spacer, Proform carb (950 cfm I think), and a drop base air cleaner assembly.... Think that will clear in this '72 with power bulge hood? LOL

No problem, Brock...
Fifty cents per word is my new rate...but since it's rather lengthy I'll give you a volume discount....
Fifty cents per sentence...
And that would be cheap...you know how brief my posts are! #DancingBanana# #DancingBanana#

Jeeze Jer, I know people take loans out for cars, but taking out loans to pay someone to describe how to measure a distance for something on a car, man oh man.... LOL

Yes hotrodder that's the air cleaner I'm wanting to purchase. The weird size is keeping me from ordering it along with not knowing if I can get a drop base. So far I have not found anyone that is using a drop base to try out. The drop bases I see in catalogs usually say they fit a Holley. My Demon carb. seems too long for a drop base to fit.
