Trying to find out if any body has used the shop lately to see about the good or the bad

As long as "his" (and I assume that means the same shop he uses, not "his" as in he owns it) shop is the same one you would have settled on anyway, then fine. Otherwise, it's none of his business. You are the injured party here...you owe him no favors.

You are the claimant. You can take it wherever YOU want. Insurance companies usually leave a open check when dealing with classics because of so many variables. No way in hell would I take it to his shop, I don't care what kind of rep the guy has. If you want to bring it to southern IL., we will fix it and right. We do picky every day and we love Mopar. I'm finishing up a 2009 SRT8 Chally tomorrow. I'm sure there is somebody closer but even if they have to paint the whole side to make it right it has to be done and they have to pay for it. Until you are happy, refuse to close the claim and they will eventually see it your way. Insurance companies are a lot of bluff. Ask for a rental car to drive too. And don't worry about the other guy. His rates were going up anyways the moment he touched the gas.

Sorry to hear about your car. with what someone posted earlier- a professional bodyshop should not have any problem matching a color no matter how old the paint is. If they say they will have problems then look for another bodyshop. A bodyshop should be looking to "blend" the color into the vehicle and not butt the fresh paint panel next to a panel that has the old paint. That way even if there is a subtle difference between the new color and the old paint, blending would make it undetectable. Good luck.

I took the car to his body shop today.
Turns out they do not want to fix my car.
On another topic it turns out this guy is having a rash of accidents lately. while he brought his Challenger for them to look at, he hit a hot rod they were just finishing up. they asked him to call ahead next time so they can put away finished vehicles.
This is going to his insurance now no if and buts. Cha Chine!$$$$$$

Small fender bender I was in a week ago, (my 2012 GMC not my baby), got me thinking about this. On the up side my car had already been altered from original when I got it so I went restomod instead of restoration. That makes it easier because any hi quality body shop can fix it. If it was all original or accurately restored I have no idea where I would take it.
I think there would be more issues with insurance as well. I have mine insured, full coverage, with a big company that insures all our vehicles and our home. I think it would be a fight to get them to pay much for the 72 because they would just want to see it as an old car. Maybe having all the receipts for the parts which where considerably more than the car cost me would help. But, I would still have issues showing cost for the work that was done. Work was done in my shop, (non automotive), and at least 1 other person worked on it with me all the time who was on the clock. I haven't addressed this yet because the car has only gone 38 miles in the past year. Now that it's hitting the street again I think I will have to call Hagerty.
Being a restomod I guess it would depend on what happened with the insurance and how bad the damage was as to how far I would go to repair/rebuild this car. I have a lot more invested in the drivetrain and suspension than this car is actually worth if it was other than agreed value. I would probably be better off to find a good body and start from scratch using parts from this car.

OMG! Put your Kevlar vest on and hide your daughters, State Farm is the worst insurance to deal with. Or should I say not deal with. They don't give. We cringe to have to work on a State Farm Claim. Good luck. Our in house joke is "like a bad neighbor, they steal you blind". Everybody should get a thorough professional appraisal on your car BEFORE this happens. If not plan on hiring a lawyer. They will go by the NADA book or by their own internet searches to evaluate the value of your car if you cannot prove with a paper trail the value of your car or the mods to it. That coupled with the fact that they want their hack, I mean pro shop do the work. I have my car insured with Country Companies and just found out there were some wide variations in what the coverage actually is and what the agent said it was. They would have only paid me for the purchase price on the title app. if I had totaled it. About $6000 less than what it's worth! Knock on wood, I've done three jobs in 25 years for Hagerty and it was painless for me and the insured. They even paid for a NOS fender for a 57 Ford because there is no such thing as a used rustfree fender for a 57 Ford and the car only had 12,000 miles on it. I'm not sure if the insured rates went up but nobody ever said so.
