Went down to the body shop today and made my appointment for my trunk modification. Not using decals it will be painted on.

Ha...very cool. I always liked those, although my plain-Jane Rallye did not come with them.

There are two little bubbles in that area so the best way to fix it instead of trying to match the the paint is to repair it and cover it up. It will match the taillights and wing, matte black.

Bob, I'm sure it will come out great. I painted mine on a couple years ago. Taping it off was a pain-did it in the middle of winter and stole the wife's hairdryer to heat the metal and kept the can of SEM trim black in my jacket to keep it warm.
My 72 did not have the stripe when I got it but it was repainted so who know's. Dave was there a 'stripe delete' option in '72? Mine is coded as a Rallye but didn't see anything on the build sheet regarding the rear blackout.
