Before you buy find out what compression the pistons are with your heads you plan on using
That tells you to buy or walk

Those pistons will work. Good find because 340 pistons are high. Looks to be a "rebuilder" piston with good qualitys. Flat top should be fine with probably 9 to 9.5 compression. You won't know till it is put together but should run fine. Does he have any heads? If you could come up with a J or X head you would be set. I would get those parts but only use the headgaskets if they are Felpro or Detroit. If you have a true 340 rod, you can change those pistons yourself because they are floaters. To remove you just pull the clip. Awesome find! I'm sure you got those parts for what the shipping would be. Now you need to find a camshaft with 268 to 284 duration and you will be set.

Thank you for your comment
That's exactly what I wanted to know! Any kind of patented technology of the time?! He has 360 heads, are they good enough for my application? He should have the gaskets as well but I am not sure about the make! I do have my stock 340 Rods. I also have my stock cam, do you think it needs to be upgraded?

Check the last 3 numbers on the heads. 587 is good . Will have to check out any other numbers but probably anything other than your 318 heads will be an improvement and get you closer to 300 and fit your intake correctly. If your stock camshaft is good and is a real 340 cam it would be alright. Look for numbers on the end and for the prescence of purple paint on it to verify its origins. Supposedly all 340 cams were the same 268/272 duration with the 68 340 manual cam being a little wilder. With the manual trans you could easily step up to the 284 pattern cam and have a little stronger motor. Without a spring swap that is probably your 2 choices.

That cam is going to take a lot of polishing
Might be better to look at a Hugh's cam

I am about to order this: www.summitracing.com/int/parts/sum-6901/overview/make/dodgeSeems a good cam for price. For this 340 build I need smooth idle acceptable mid-range power. Let me know your comments please. A friend of mine is in USA now and will be back on 7th. I want to ask him take this cam for me. How fast is Summit in shipping? They wrote TOMORROW in their site. Will the cam arrive in time to my friends place?

Summit is fast. 2 days to most of US. Cam is very similar to 340 cam but more duration. Should fit right in with your build. You need lifters too. Pretty good price. I think $99 order gets you free shipping.
