Should be a sheet with the rings that gives the specs but the book calls for .010-.020 so it should be good even if it is on the high side. Did you check it by putting the piston in the bore upside down centering the ring a couple of inches down in the bore and measuring the gap or ?

There were no sheet with the rings at all. Yes I used the piston upside down but I didn't go that deep, maybe one inch. Shall I repeat the test again before taking the block away?

I probably would have went a little lower just to make sure I cleared any taper that might exist. Most of the pro checkers don't go any farther than that. Should be good. Only way you could do better is to get a set of file to fit rings but this should work. Get the block home and start building this motor. Have you decided on heads yet?

Thanks for the comments. Yes, I found a set of 360 heads and will pick them up this week.

I went and saw the heads today, a pair of 3679974 heads. I remember you had told me 3671587 ones are good. Any idea about 3679974? Shall I refuse to take them or they are good enough yet?

How to identify this?

974 is a 75-6 360 head with 1.8 intake and 1.6 exhaust. Definitely better than your 318 heads and comes with hardened seats. I would gasket match them to the intake, do a 3 angle valve job and call it good. Have them checked for cracks definitely. About the same as a 587 head. You could port and polish but I wouldn't do much more than a general cleanup. That's the final big piece. Now let's get building!!!!

That's good to know they come with hardened seats because it was one of my concerns with unleaded fuel. I will pick them up and go directly to the machine shop.

Well, you mentioned 3 angle valve job and made my mind busy! Seems to be a good power gain at no cost. What about the back cutting of the valves? Shall I perform it too?
