Is it normal for the chrome bezel to spin freely or not? I just happen to have my glove box door off at the moment and might as well deal with the lock if it isn't working right.

no... it's pressure attached to the cylinder.

Is there a fix, or does it have to be replaced?

So I have been messing with this glove box latch for a while trying to get it separated. I discovered there is a second small access opening on the side of the latch. About the same area as the one on the center front of the latch only on the side. Downside, I can’t see it because it is on the side and There is not enough wiggle room to rotate the mechanism to see it. Up side, with a piece of hooked wire I can feel that I am depressing a tab in the side opening. However still won’t come apart. Looking at a picture someone posted earlier in this thread it looks like there may be 2 tabs in the opening. I can’t tell if I am pushing on the correct one due to not being able to see it. Long story short looking for any further tips to get it apart with out damaging it or best suggestions for drilling the lock without damaging the latch. Thanks

I wish I had some advice, but I don't. I find this to b one of the most seemingly simple yet frustrating devices on an automobile.
Wanting to remove the one on my Cordoba (it's keyed to match the ignition and doors), I followed a tip from someone on Moparts on how to do it. What I managed to do was to rotate the lock 90*, and now it's locked and won't budge. Can't unlock it, can't remove the knob, can't open the door. I'm probably going to have to cut through the original clear plastic glove box and see if I can get to the mounting screws on the hinge and latch.
So frustrating.

What tip did you follow, I'd like to avoid that!
I've been fooling around with mine - never paid it much attention before but now I see that it does lock and unlock correctly, the only problem is the detached chrome knob. I can live with that problem. I sure don't want to have the lock freeze up on me though.

Guys this is easier than it sounds. The real trick ( aside get the correct key ) is catch the correct pin/tab to pressure to release the cilinder from latch housing.
1. Open glove box lid 2. Insert the key... MUST BE THE MATCHING ONE. 3. Lock the glove box Cylinder, hence the reason the key must be the matching one ( remember, lock the cylinder with lid open ) 4. Remove key 5. Press the locking tab. Glove box door gets a window large enough to make this. IS THE ONE FURTHER OUT AGAINST THE RETAINING WASHER OF THE LATCH HOUSING ASSEMBLY. This tab is JUST VISIBLE with cylinder locked. 6. Insert the key again KEEPING THE LOCKING TAB PRESSED. Once the key is inserted with locking tab pressed you can despite the tab, because the key will keep it pressed allong with the REST of cylinder key tabs. 7. Pull out the cylinder WITH KEY. It should come out pretty much easy.
Latch doesn't need to be loosen to make all of this job
