I've done another round with it. I've been unable to put the key back in without forcing the locking tab back up.

I finally got the lock cylinder out of the latch without the key. It can be done but isn’t easy. Latch must be in the closed position. Remove the 2 small bolts that hold the latch to the back of the glove box door. That gives just a little wiggle room to work. You need something very small, strong and hooked. I used one of those picks a dentist uses to scrape between your teeth. Sine I didn’t have a key that worked I couldn’t turn the cylinder to get the release tab to the front access hole. Hence the release tab is on the side access hole that you can’t see when the latch is in the closed position . I used the small pick to reach the side access and kept messing with it until I finally got the tab depressed and released the cylinder. The difficulty is that you can’t see the access hole or the tab. You are doing it blind. I was able to replace the cylinder from one I pulled from a 77 Córdoba. Works perfectly!
