Manuel: Mine is Haynes #30050: Dodge, Plymouth, Chrysler: 1971 thru 1989 (it's green) #YesNod# Starter Relay - Check and Adjustment...... Page 5-18 Neutral Start/Backup Light Switch....................7B-1 Starter Motor -Testing In Vehicle.....................5-17 INDEX........................................................IND-1
As far as Ignition Switch TESTING: NOBODY knows more about which color wire has how many volts in each position of the Ignition Switch (Acc, Off, Run, Start) than our own 3rd Gen Guru: NACHO! (at least I've never come across anyone with more knowledge.)
If you get to the point where you need to test that, ask him to go over that for you (he'll probably give you a link to a thread here, because I'm pretty sure I've seen it here in this forum somewhere before).
Ignition Switch Replace....................Page 12-9
Manuel, if you HAVE NOT got the problem solved by tomorrow evening (say 9:00 PM), be sure and PM me with your phone number so we can fine tune my coming by there! Right now it looks like I MIGHT be able to come by Friday afternoon/evening, but it more than likely will be Saturday morning...depends on how long my other Turlock/Modesto business takes.
Best of Luck, #A_Toast# Jer.

I have same manual.
To make the test you need just try with a tester bulb on yellow wire arriving up to starter relay and then try to start. If bulb turns on when you try to crank, then you have wire and ignition switch in good or at least working conditions.
Then you try also directly ground the G terminal directly from chassis. This prong on Starter relay is normally feeded by a ground coming from tranny switch on Neutral and Parking... that what is called NSS. wire is brown traced yellow. Just unplug that wire and ground the prong with a jumper to chassis. Be sure you are on N or P and then try to start the engine. IF engine starts then problem is on that brown/yellow wire( broken or loosen plug at tranny ) or tranny NSS damaged or tranny linkage out of adjustment.
Once again BESIDE ALL THE INTERLOCK SYSTEM, that's all you have to check. If you have power on yellow wire at Start moment and grounded to chassis the G prong on relay, and engine still doesn't start, definitelly is starter relay damaged

Here's a quote to remember. "Despite the years I worked as a mechanic, I found out that just because the parts are new or even "brand" new, you'd be surprised how many of these parts are bad when in that condition."

or simply made on lower quality.
I still have the factory starter. Once failed and instead replace, I opened, clean contacts ( were sulfated ) and mounted. Still working

Still working I got a couple of factory starters (to my knowledge) sitting on the porch. Also got a few other misc parts too.... Intakes and all... Anyway, guess they make the porch look better.

well when i did the tests it failed so it seems to be the relay. also when i took the carb off to clean it and put it back on i wasnt getting lil jets of fuel when tryin to start it when i pumped it so i took it off took the top part of the carb off tried to see what was wrong fixed the lil thingy that goes up and down with the throttle. looks like a buttery fly two pins and a spring well i acidently lost the spring it sprung out and now i have no idea where its at. At this point i am so fustrated today i kicked the fence and broke one of the planks oh well im gonna take a break from workin on the old girl for a while cause just seems like everytime i try and do somethin good somethin bad happens. So yeah definatley gonna take a break from her.
