I have a spare mint cluster that I'm sure I'll never use, but stubbornly refuse to part with. To put in the Alpine DIN unit, I had to file the hole out a little larger, but it's where the radio belongs. I can understand not wanting to do surgery on the cluster, but there are plenty at swap meets that have already been cut. Get one of those and put the radio where it belongs.

I cut out a retangle of the top right of my glove box so my radio would fit. my radio comes with a remote so i can control it from my drivers seat and the radio has a removeable faceplate so i can take it off and put it and the remote in the box so i can close the lid and lock it up nice and tight! and i got the radio frame and traced the two screw holes on top of the box to where the radio would fit perfect in the box and my radio came with screws and they were perfect for my idea, and i found some nuts to reinforce it so the radio wouldn't come crashing down and i just tightend up the screws and nuts and slid the radio in (of corse i took the glove box out) the glove box may sag a little bit if u do it my way but when u get it screwed back in and squared away it will look like it is sopposed to be there. ill will post pics if u would like. I tried that a couple of years ago, but didn't realize that the metal dash and glovebox door meant you had to leave the glovebox open for the remote to work. The signal from the remote couldn't get through the metal. I gave up and had my radio guts replaced by Retro radio Restoration. It took forever to get it back, but now I have the factory cassette working as well as a ten disc changer. I've actually got the changer under the back seat, cause nobody ever sits back there. The CD control is velcroed to the inside of the console lid. Nothing is visible from the outside, and I've got everything you could want.
