Sanding them may not work real well. I had mine sandblasted and the paint is holding well. If you paint over chrome the paint will chip and flake easily!! It wouldnt be much to blast them.

The engine shop does have a build sheet and it says it was a forged crank. I will be having them send it to me. This engine was done profesionaly but done a few years ago and the person never picked it up so they cleared it out. Thanks

I purchased this engine as a rebuilt long block and put a Damper on it I purchased from summit. Got the engine fired up and runs great but had a vibration that my old 400 didnt. So I got it home and looked at the box for damper and yep its for a a internal balanced motor!!! I took new one off and replaced it with the old harmonic damper off original 400. Started it and it vibrates worse then before so now I'm cursing and wanting to sell the whole works!!!!! I gave a call to the rebuilder and they state that this is a truck or rv engine and it has the forged not cast crank? Is this right did the 400 ever come with a forged crank? So now I can put my new damper on and knock off the wieghts on torq converter and all should be good? I hope its that easy but probably not!!!! I chased that vibration for a long time taking valve covers off and checking for bent rods!! Pulling plugs wires off and checking routing too!!! Is there a way to tell if this a cast or forged without pulling the oil pan? They are certain that it is a forged but i want to be sure.

I feel your pain!!! I got a remanufactured steering gear and it leaked all over too!!! I ended up just getting the rebuild kit and doing it myself on my old one.

Well my block turned out to be not matching so its going on stand and will be stroked with a 440 crank i took out of a Hp motor. I already have a 400 30 over bolted in its place so the old motor will be a possable donor for a 65 dodge dart gt convertable i aquired!!! You thinks i can stuff it in there!!!!!
