Brock: I knew E-berg well enough that not only can I bust his chops personally, I've ridden in both the Green Brick and his amazing Shelby Lancer (or was it Lancer Shelby--I forget, but there's a difference). However, I haven't talked to him in a long time, probably because his constant bashing of F/M/J/Y-cars means he'd have nothing good to say about that on which I'm working at the moment. I realize they have their problems, but it's not like they wear a bowtie.
GreenGo: if you don't represent it as a "Reference Restoration" I won't have anything to say. I think the '71 setup far prettier, but I still like hideaways of any stripe over any standard open-lamp grille!

Hmmm.... I never have understood why so many people prefer the 71 hideaways. I think the 72`s are more attractive.

I never really even noticed the difference between 71 and 72 until it was pointed out....so I guess If I had the choice I would pick the year correct 71 for my R/T just because its correct....I had Tom chase down a 22" matching numbers rad for me 1 because it was the correct rad....2nd because my car came with a 22" rad and I didnt want to modify the rad saddle....So I spent what I concider a small fortune on a rad that needs recored.. But having looked at a 71 and 72 side by each....I like em both.... Now that I have a 72 ( thanks TOM) ...as sinatra pointed out any hideawy is better then none Can the grills 1971 bolt right into the 72 assembly...IF I ever chose to make it correct...and I find mint 71 grills?

Yes on the last question Greengo. I'm not gonna bust any chops for preference or opinion unless they try to state it as fact in a magazene I'm glad I have a 72 hidaway setup on my car. I like it! I just think the 71 design is less busy - just an opinion.

I can see where some would prefer the 71 to the 72, but I love 'em both. Since mine is a 72, and I have a 72 grill, I may be a little biased!

The ones I picked up are from a 71 Bee, are they all the same? Bee, R/T, S/E?
While I am thinking about it, what is the deal with some front bumpers having the vertical charger symbol where most do not?(sorry for the hijack)

As far as I know, the concealed grills come in two flavors...1971 and 1972. No other variants.
The Charger "emblem" was only used on '71 and '72 3rd gen front bumpers. '73 and '74 models were smooth.
