as far I know, custom... the red stripe was used on 73/74 grilles

I've seen that too. It's a '73/'74 thing (I like it). But I don't know when/where/why it was used. I'll leave that to one of our 3.5 Gen experts (like Nacho) to answer.

I've never seen the red stripe on a hideaway car, and as I recall the red stripe on the '73-'74 cars was on an added grille piece that bolts through the standard grille. I only recall seeing it on SEs, though.

Hmmm.... I never have understood why so many people prefer the 71 hideaways. I think the 72`s are more attractive. Did you change your mind yet Tom?

Did you change your mind yet Tom? No....but I like both styles. If I was putting hideaways on a 71, I would use 71 hideaways. If I was putting them on a 72-74, I would use the 72's. Comparatively, the 71's are so much harder to find....and usually more expensive, if you do manage to find them. I wish I would not have sold off all my 71's 5 years ago or so. Should have kept one or two sets. At least I did find that one set a Carlisle this past summer.

Cool Looks like the only difference is more vertical fins but the bolt pattern and mounting appear to be identical. Thats exactly what i was after, thanks a ton DynoDave ;D i want buy the part call me 818 815 7253 david
