well even in fact the cowl panel, just because the cut for the plastic hose conection to driver side arm. If we want to be more exact, the screw provisions for interlock reset button. Then also come other changes on californian cars for some emissions sensors, but thats not year related
some differences are simply easy to overlook simply because doesn't affects on function and you rarelly took those.
some others:
-steering column shaft. -FIREWALL is different with diff steering column cut out. -Column bracket to firewall and collapsible tube complete assembly is different. -Bracket to column to dash, with just 2 attaching points instead 3 from earliers

I didn't know that about the gauge bezel (International req,s). Is that what makes the underdash wiring harness different?

no, the diff on underdash harness is because the starting interlock and seatbelt sensors system.
the cluster bezel diff is not more than an extra cut out at a side of switches on 74 bezels to fit the icon label on rallye cluster, and an enlarged cut out on existant lettering location to fit a bigger label with the function icon on standart clusters.

Did you forget that the 73's floor shifter handle was a T handle and the 74's had the round ball. Also the 73's had a very nice steer 3 bar steering wheel and the 74's had that ugly saftey padded steering wheel.......................

about the handle... I'm not really sure you know ? I have seen both kinds on 74s. My car itself being a 74 got T handle ( but being assemblied in Venezuela, that could mean nothing ). In fact I would say 60%-65% of 74s I have seen on the web are still T handle, but is true is something interesting to check
Yes wheel too... has been mentioned on the first replay ( boxed in a quote ), but never with detailed info.
( By the way, I like more the 74 wheel, and even more the 74 Brougham wheel, but never more than a tuff wheel, just putting them side a side with earlier 3 spokes )

Good thread. So if a '73 and a '74 are sitting side-by-side in a parking lot how do you tell them apart by just looking at the exterior?

if totally stock, from the distance a 74 has...
-larger rear bumper guards -no grill on hood -hanging shoulder belt
then get it closer -washer nozzles mounted in wiper arms -wiper and lights icons on cluster -extra retractor to shoulder belt and extra panel on to lower rear panel to hide it
then depending on equipment - regular 3 spokes wheels on 73s and padded wheel on 74s
