3879519, or 3488391, Relay and Bracket, Headlamp Delay, Headlamp Sentinel & Dimmer shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=3488391&_sacat=See-All-CategoriesFound this description in one of those auctions: " This relay performs the function of keeping your headlamps lit for a short period of time after you turn off the ignition to give you light so you can see where you are going if you are in a dark place [such as a garage] or an outside place with poor or no lighting. If your car came with the A01 light package then you should have this relay factory installed on your car. If you do not have the A01 package you can easily add this relay since the wiring and connector for this relay was in ALL dash harnesses. Just mount it in the stock location and plug it in." Is this description correct? And do these things REALLY sell/trade for this much? $50-$70 range? When I see Frank asking $70, I get a little concerned! LOL

Yes the description seems accurate. When working properly, you had to turn off the ignition before turning off the lights to make it work. Makes me wonder how many people thought their light switch was broken when they forgot to turn their lights off Cajun math: $10 part + 40 years = $50 I'm gonna go ahead & get 1 for the 70 - it's going back stock & that feature hasn't worked in the 27 years I've had it

And there goes one of them! Thanks for the confirmation on that description Brock. So this was applicable to our B bodies then. A lot of the adds focus on "full size" cars. So, if a person has concealed headlamps, how does this figure into the deal? Is it the same plug and play, and the relay feeds the motor to close the doors after it turns the lights out?

I haven't analized the circuit yet, but being to feed headlights even through this delay relay needs to energize the green wire what at the same time triggers the concelead doors, I guess the delay relay will take the doors control too. wondering about run circuit being shutted off with key, what actually feeds the motor, no matter if is triggered by the green wire. will check that

Thanks Nacho.
These are the things that keep my brain from freezing up from the cold weather during Michigan winters.

The headlamp on reminder buzzer was part of the A01 Charger Light Group but, as Nacho pointed out, the headlamp delay was not. It was a separate option. The correct part number for the 71 Charger is the 1 year only part 3488076 and these are very hard to find. The wiring harness is not listed in the 70-71 parts manual (I have no idea why... ) but is 3513101. So those are the only two parts you need to install the headlamp delay option on a 71 Charger.

Thanks charger440sixpac. That's a helpful diagram. Do you know if the headlamp delay works and plays well with the concealed headlamps? 3488076...great, another part # variant!

... Do you know if the headlamp delay works and plays well with the concealed headlamps? I believe it does. The delay relay acts as a second switch on the headlamp circuit which, when the engine ignition is turned off and then the headlamp switch is turned off (in that order), the delay relay will hold power to the headlamp circuit for an additional period of time (about 90 secs.). When the delay relay cuts power to the headlamp circuit after the 90sec delay, the concealed headlamp door relay performs its function normally closing the headlamp doors. ... 3488076...great, another part # variant! Yep, I have one each of the 3488076 & 3488391 relays and can tell you they are identical with the exception of the external mounting bracket. They both use the same connector and are set for the same delay period of approx. 90 sec. #Scope# BTW, I just noticed the claim that the wiring and connector are already in the wiring harness; this is NOT true of either the headlamp on warning buzzer (in the A01 option package) or the headlamp delay feature. Both the warning buzzer and the delay relay require an additional wiring harness ... in a Charger anyway.
