Allow me to start with a new opinion: Removal of the entire dash is
the way to go for cluster restoration or touchup. Sure, the steering
column has to be dropped. (this is true if you are just removing the
cluster by itself.) Wires & hoses have to be disconnected either way.
Maybe there are more to disconnect when removing the entire dash.
Certainly, the Bulkhead Disconnect & a separate wire or two must
come loose from under the hood: however the pros outweigh the
cons here. You get to clean the entire underdash area & inspect
any trouble spots that may develope in your wiring. (Are any
connectors starting to crack apart?) The ol' MoPar burned to the
ground from an underdash fire won't be your story after this!!
I decided to leave all underdash wiring connected to the gauges &
A/C-Heat etc. Wires were folded over & fed through the cluster opening.
The bezel was held on by 8 remaining screws; half on top & half on
bottom. Easy to wash it now!!
The Sharpie paint marker was trouble (notice the pool of silver on
the table) The Sharpie felt tip did wonders though. I left the bezel
highlights unfinished to show how much improvement there is &
because there is a bit of bodywork to do on this bezel before the
highlights are completed. Notice the highlights are smooth once the
pic is enlarged.
Yes, it's still the dull 2 tone brown bezel; but its clean.
BareMetalFoil might be right for your accents?! Will it be too shiny?
Fresh airbrush work from 1 of the vendors such as PCG could be the
ticket (haven't found an example of their work yet)
For barebones cleaned up & detailled? This is as simple & cheap as it gets!!
