Hey Superduperbee, Regarding your question about what I call preventative coatings... None have worked on the glasses I wear to see afar. Remember, once you remove the instrument cluster from such a harsh inviroment as a junkyard....It stays pretty well out of harms reach!

I was referring to general cleaning, like getting dust and grit off before a car show or whatever. I've seen the gage lenses ruined by harsh cleaners and/or rubbing with cloth that was too abrasive. Just wondering how you experts clean yours.

Ray, you need to check out www.meguiars.comThey have 3 products there that I've used for years with great results, under their Mirror Glaze brand. The #18 Clear Plastic Detailer is the basic spray for everyday maintenance/cleaning. The #10 Clear Plastic Polish is the next step up and actually "safely restores optic clarity to all clear plastics. Provides a static-free coating that repels dust. Safe and effective on both acrylic and polycarbonate surfaces. Ideal for boats, RV's, cars, motorcycles and aircraft" The #17 Clear Plastic Cleaner is the ultimate, heaviest-duty of the 3, and " removes fine hairline scratches from all types of clear plastic. Unique, non-abrasive formula prepares the surface for Mirror GlazeĀ® Clear Plastic Polish. Perfect cleaner for computer screens, convertible windows, helmet visors, motorcycle windscreens, displays and instrument panels." I wouldn't recommend these, Ray, unless I had personally used them, and I have....a lot!! I usually start out with the 18 and if that isn't good enough, I then try the 10, and if scratches still aren't gone, I go to the 17. Then once I'm done, I do a final cleaning with the spray 18. The 10 and the 17 are a semi-liquid paste (like an ointment) and (like the spray 18) you use nice clean, lint-free, soft cloths when using them. Best stuff since sliced bread!! The 3 bottles are for sale everywhere...parts stores, auto supply stores, auto paint stores...everywhere!! Jer.

Thanks !!! That's the info I was looking for. If everything goes well for me this year, I should have the Super Bee finished and at a show somewhere. I have used the Meguiars waxes for a couple years now and really like them. Just didn't know about these cleaners.

They're an awesome and quality product, Ray--something highly unusual for this day and age. I have taken scratches out of taillight lenses, radio faces, even welding/cutting goggles (the plastic ones of course...well, basically an endless list. I find myself just looking for scratches in all kinds of plastics just to see if the stuff will get the scratch out!! Good luck with gettin' her ready, Ray...or is it a boy like all of mine are?

It's OK to wear pink as long as it isn't a dress or tutu because we are manly men. Sorry, with all the Sholtz, Blazin Saddles & just plain off-the-wall references lately: I couldn't help but alude to the movie "Men in Tights"

Thank you Hutch! The smarts go to my daughter. She is starting to wonder when she'll get her Sharpie back! I think I'll open my wallet & have her get 2 next time she asks!! It looks just as good as model car paint, so I won't document that. I hope to document the Bare Metal Foil method before this Fall. I predict it to be very tedeous & nonstock appearing - but well worth the trouble if only to see the results.
I'm sure the nail polish is very hard & durable once dried. But: Yes! Nasty stuff. I'll pass on trying that. Post your pics of the nail polish results if you got em!!!!!!!
It ain't my thread it's the Cluster Touchup thread!
