Makes the tires look smaller now, may have to look into 15s, the wife will love that! 15s do look good!

Been running over a list in my head of what I want to do with my ‘73 Rallye getting it back on the road. The 225 70 series tires on 14 Rallye rims never seemed wide enough so I’m planning on a set of 15” Yearone repops, 15x7 in front and 15x8 in back. The 295’s look too big to me so I’m going with 275’s which also jump from a 26” diameter to 28”. Bring wider and taller they’ll fill out the wheel wells nicely. They’ll also kill the final drive ratio. It has a 3:23 sure grip, 489 case in it now and I had a 3:55 sure grip 741 case waiting to go in but the plans for the 275’s would have made the 3:55’s the same as the 3:23’s in it now. The 340 isn’t stock and the cam could use more gear so after a long search I tracked down and purchased a 3:91 sure grip 489 case unit that was completely rebuilt with new Richmond gears, new everything. The unit was never installed in a car after being built. That arrived yesterday. Combining the taller tires with the 3:91 the final drive would equal a 3:65/3:65 gear set with 26” tires. That should wake it up some . Check that one off the list. Other items besides the rims and tires are a TCI trans and converter, TTI headers and flow masters behind them.

Sounds good ltmike! That tire size will look and perform well, and the gear ratio will make it more lively.

You know the real trick will be getting and keeping the momentum going on the project. I think I’ll play it safe and add a new gas tank and sender to that list. Their not that bad to buy and the old one has to be pretty bad inside.

You know the real trick will be getting and keeping the momentum going on the project. Been there! Your right and though I might not have mentioned it a new tank and sender is in my plans. I’ll also change all rubber fuel lines and clamps. I’ll use the hi grade stainless clamps sold at west marine. Their not cheap but hold an auto zone clamp next to one of these and it’s an easy choice. Also prepared to have to replace the Carter mechanical fuel pump or have to take the thermoquad in to the carb shop for a rebuild with new gaskets and diaphragms. The carb would’ve worn out but I suspect years of storage took there toll.

This weekend I will be sending a priming my chargers fenders and roof. And maybe some other parts. She's had a rough life outside.
