That's OK...you guys could tell me in a new thread again next month, and I'd be just as excited to learn it all over again.

Yes you did purple charger.
Question, which direction should the bearing be placed? One side has a plastic /rubber seal and the other side you can see the bearing. Also Im assuming I should pack it with grease?

I want to install the bearing tonight. Any insight on the above question about which way to place the new bearing? My thought is that it doesn't matter what side to place the bearing. It will work either way. Also, that the new one is an improved version. With a plastic seal. So if I place it with the seal facing me and bearings down this will prevent dust/debris from getting into the bearing. I have seen online photos with the bearings visible. NEW one on the right. OLD on the left has grease packed in or else you would see the bearings. Maybe im over thinking this but I can't help myself sometimes.

as far I recall my bearing is sealed on both sides If I were to turn over the new bearing (right) you would see the ball bearings lined up in a row.

I don't know the answer, but I guess I'd be inclined to put it with the plastic seal down, so the grease would'nt run out the back as it sits on an incline in the column.

You make a good point but the other side of the coin is the seal keeps out dirt as well as keeping the grease in so should it be up to keep dirt from settling on/in it??? This is one that I'd be losing sleep trying to figure out. WHY CAN'T THEY PUT A SEAL ON BOTH SIDES!

I would think if you matched all the dimensions, that bearing would be about $3 at Grainger or a similar supplier. Possibly even a parts store or Rock Auto, but shipping would kill the lower price.
