It's not exactly aftermarket but I'm partial to this Plymouth Duster hood scoop - I'm not sure if I'd be willing to cut my hood or not, but I can't use a big air filter with my stock clearance and an aftermarket manifold, so maybe I would. It might be weird to have a Duster hood scoop on a Charger, but I think it would look better with an extra couple feet of hood in front of it. Another plus is that it doesn't look like it block the view over the right side of the hood. What scoop is your favorite? I like the stock performance hoods too, but I feel if you're going that route you might as well build a clone and I don't want to go to that much trouble.

I've seen these scoops on 71-74 Chargers but can't say they're my favorite. I like the six pack style scoop much better. And Bob didn't pay me to say that. ;-)

I'm not a big fan of scoops, but on Mopar options, the dual scoop could be my fav allong thith the pictured one.
any of them would make it functional. If not I'd never install one.
on a custon job one I would make a Ram hood but opposite. Door trap being flip down at the front of the buldge instead flip up on top. OR maybe 73/74 RR hood ornaments on bulge, but, once again, functional, not just an ornament. That't wouldn disturb the body line of the car

I don't believe I've seen one of these stock on a Charger. I like the extra detail in the Duster scoop, but it may be too small on a Charger. If I could compare them in person I might change my mind. The third gen Charger has great stock hoods, but I couldn't put on one a base car unless it was built up. I don't think it does more than provide hood clearance, but it looks great. Then again it looks like the detail section could pop up, but I've never seen it.

well, as a insert the 71 Bee is my all time fav and winner of every Mopar hood perf decor treatment ( allong with the 70 bee scoop on its naturall bulge ) but that's a insert not really scoop.
I hate the R/T louvers insert
I don't like parts on my car OVER the side view of the body lines, disturbing the soft lines of the car. That's why I don't like rear wings either. Preffer duck tails, but 71/74s Chargers aren't made to fit duck tails. Maybe Plymouths

I like the R/T hood myself. I can't tell if it's functional or not. Looks like it would be too far from the windshield to get any kind of ram air effect. I think this is an R/T hood on a base 72. You can barely tell it's there from the side. The base car looks great with no scoop, spoilers, door indents, vinyl roofs, etc. The only reason to put on a scoop would be function. So clean! But this is good too - I wonder if the chin spoiler is functional. The lines of the car work better without it.

I personally like both super bee and R/T hoods, I wish I could get one for my ride but even the clean lines of the SE hood are nice. The scoop on mine was there when I got it and I added the 440 emblems to it which makes for a nice touch I think. I have taken it off to see how it looked without it but put it back if for no other reason than to keep from having holes showing in my hood. I can go either way with mine but I do think it's not too big to take away from the lines of the car. Having said that I've seen big scoops that look good too but I'm not a big fan of the six pack scoop. In the end it's what ever you like, your the one driving it.

Yes, chin spoiler is functional No, R/T louvers are not. What are the benefits of the chin spoiler? gip63 - I've got an Edelbrock manifold on my 318 which is an inch or so taller than stock, and I've got to use a tiny little air filter to get clearance under the base hood. Probably too small, so, the base hood looks fine but it is a little difficult to work with.

Chin spoiler probably was designed for racing to keep air from getting under the car and hold the front down, at high speeds cars have been known to come off the ground and that makes for a bad day at the races. The one on my car along with hood scoop and wing were on it when I got it. From the time I was a little kid I thought wings, scoops and such were cool probably because I love military aircraft and they share those things so I haven't been in a hurry to take them off. You may want to look into after market budge hoods to solve your problem if you can't get an original. I would like to make my scoop functional but I don't want to cut a hole in a perfectly good (orgional) hood, they ain't making this stuff no more. I haft to say a SE hood with a blower sticking out of it is pretty awesome looking to me but you've got to cut out for it, I've seen pics of all kinds of setups. You will find a lot of ideas and good advise here, it's good to be able to access all the information this forum generates, it's helped me a lot.
