Today, I lost my brake lights... completely. No warning... no sometimes they work/sometimes they don't... just POOF!!! Gone!
After playing with the various lights and switches, I also found that if I turn on the hazards, the front work, but rear do not.
Turn signals all work... front and back.
Parking / tail lights all work.
Checked the brake light switch... it functions as it should. Got juice there. From what I've read here and other places, the likely culprit it the turn signal switch.
Here's what I HAVE NOT been able to find so far: INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO CHANGE THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH
I wanted to read and look at pictures before diving into this project. Seems I've heard a few people grumbling about their troubles changing the switch. But dammit... doesn't anyone give a tutorial on how to change the damn thing??? I've Googled myself to death trying to find something that talks about changing the switch!
I've also noticed some comments on how some replacements aren't that great... how sometimes the wires are turned around. These places that are dedicated Mopar parts sites... Should I be able to trust their products?

Also, something I forgot to mention. As I was poking around under the dash, I found a plug with 3 wires on it coming FROM the steering column... violet, green, and tan wires I think. I haven't noticed this before. It was not connected to anything... just hanging there.
A couple of weeks ago, I had removed the radio to see about changing some of the capacitors. I am wondering if I knock something loose... and this mystery plug that's just hanging there could possibly be the culprit? I will likely need to remove the radio again to see if there's something up there that connects to this 3-wired plug.
Just so happened... as I was looking at a replacement turn signal switch on the web... I notice there are TWO connectors for the switch... and one is the 3-wired plug I am describing. What are those 3 wires for?

yeap, it points out to the turning switch if you are having issues just with rear hazzards and brakes, not with turnings. You can in fact jump out the white wire with Dark green and dark brown and press brakes. If they turn on, will be definitelly the turning switch.
The 3 pins plug hanging is for the cornering lights used on C bodies. Latelly this piece was used as replacement for the rest of bodies just to make a one production piece for every car even using the original PN number without the extra plug which ends on 804 ( the original cornering light switch was I 805 recall ).
To replace it, needs of course to remove the steering wheel, loose the lever screw and 3 screws which holds it to the column collar with a plate, drop the column and remove plastic covert down the steering column bracket to get room for the plug going throught. Tie a wire or cord to the plug to be able to guide the new turning switch harness through the same way.
You could try in fact replace just the cam section and not the full switch which is the one which uses to get damaged. It's available.
The next issue you can get is, depending on car's built date, can get the earlier hazzard knob which is small, or the larger one marketed to 72 and lates. This also affects the ign key courtesy light.
The small one is HARD to find so would need to trim out the laters one hazzard knob

Oh crap so you're saying there's a LOT of possibilities of which part I can use, and many of them might not be completely correct. Typical! My car door tag shows a build date of 6/71. I do have the ignition switch light... would hate to lose that after getting it working again.
I don't mind changing just the cam... but do I have to watch for various versions of the cam for a single year? Or are those all the same?
Thanks for the instructions on how to get to the switch.

If I jump the wires that you mentioned earlier to make the brake lights work... will that kill everything else? Or can I keep it that way temporarily while waiting on the new part?
